Skilling McDonald's future leaders

Release: 9th August 2010

Esset Australia is pleased to announce its partnership with McDonald’s Australia to provide skills development and recognition services for future restaurant managers and leaders.

The program, which was launched with a pilot group of 50 participants from restaurants across Victoria last week, will provide the opportunity for employees undertaking McDonald’s flagship leadership training program – Restaurant Leadership Practices (RLP) – to gain the Diploma of Management qualification upon successful completion of their course.

“McDonald’s Australia has a strongly embedded learning and development culture across all its operations” Esset Australia CEO, Stephen Brown says. “This partnership will strengthen the existing management training program in place and value add to it through the provision of a nationally recognised Diploma qualification for participants upon completion of their training”.

The program will see participants undergo a 12 month skills development course, with regular visits in the workplace by Esset Learning and Development Consultants. Participants will complete a number of workplace based tasks preparing them to take on management functions within their restaurants. These tasks will be formally assessed over the course duration.

“The course content will equip these identified employees with skills such as managing the business, developing and scheduling staff, sales building and managing internal communications” Stephen notes. “These are key skills for managers within the McDonald’s brand”.

At around the 9 month mark of the course, participants will attend the 7 day residential course at the Charlie Bell School of Management in Sydney. This will provide the opportunity for future leaders to meet their peers from restaurants across Australia and participate in interactive lectures and workshops that will prepare them for their management career.

Plans to roll out the program across all states and territories are underway.
